This is an unique and beautiful piece, handmade, and the lucky buyer will be the first to wear it.
The "file", (pronounced fee-leh), is a type of embroidery, genuinely from Alagoas, Brazil. Most of the lace makers are in Pontal da Barra, in Maceió, but the stitch is also made in cities such as Marechal Deodoro – where Praia do Frances is located– and Coqueiro Seco, in the metropolitan area of the capital. The hand weaving work is done with a needle like those used to make fishing nets, which connects this type of craft even more to the lakes of Alagoas. The “filezeiras” fill the fishing net 100% cotton with incredible and super careful embroidery. When the piece – beach wraps, tops, dresses, towels, table runners, bags and much more – is ready, it is ironed inside out with a hot iron. In the past, lace was only made with white threads, extracted with natural dye from plants in the estuary region. Afterwards, the filet from Alagoas won colors, combinations and, of course, the hearts of those who know the technique. I'm from Alagoas and my family has kept the tradition of file embroidery for 4 generations. I learned to embroider from my mother who learned from my grandmother, her mother. Today, I teach the techniques to my children. All made and created with great affection, point by point. I will post unique pieces made by me. You are welcome to ask me about more details.
