A rare 2-inch hand-painted miniature pendant combining art, jewelry, and Polish design history. The front shows a finely detailed portrait after Rembrandt (A Polish Nobleman, 1637), signed and inscribed on the reverse: “After Rembrandt – Painted by Irena Binder – Poland – 1975.” Set in a 14k gold frame stamped WR.
Artist: Irena Binder (c.1910–1986) was a Polish painter and textile designer. She is documented in the Experimental Studio of Textile Printing & Painting in Milanówek (Jedwab Polski), Poland’s historic silk center, where she created hand-painted silk fabrics under Irena Dewitzowa and Irena Golińska. Her name appears in the National Museum in Warsaw’s collections and Milanówek cultural histories as one of the studio’s silk painters.
This pendant is a late-career work, painted three decades after WWII, showing Binder’s continued dedication to miniature painting alongside her textile career. Signed, dated miniatures in gold settings from Poland are scarce, making this piece highly collectible.
