While we were rummaging around in Antique stores we came upon an lovely tray. I said to my friend look how nice that is - it's got that "Colonial" Furniture look like my mother's furniture Looks like something someone would have made and used, a functional & decorative piece (like New England - Cape Cod) My friend said you're not buying that are you? I looked at the price and replied NO! GOOD! he said (he was in the process of doin demolition on an old house he had bought, him being a pack-rat like had put the old wood boards aside and he had been experimenting with his power tools) He told me - I can make those, you can paint them & we can sell them. I said Ha-Ha! sure - 2 weeks later he came to my house, and unloaded his trunk. This is one of two made in 1993 (with old boards we upcycled) the other one I made a checkerboard, and bought old checkers at Goodwill - we played on it and when not in use it hung on the wall - as artwork We also made birdhouses together. Many versions - trial and error - what kind of holes, the size and positioning of them , what kind of 'roost' was needed. This was I signed Rachelle '93. It is rustic. You could get a piece of glass of do a 2 part epoxy to further protect the surface
