Vintage 1940's French style Country Basket, made of woven willow with two swing top handles for carrying & a leather strap for locking, which now needs replacing. This late 1940's wicker basket is an authentic, hand crafted item built to last! It is not only a very charming piece of real vintage decor for your home, cabin, cottage in the woods; but it's also an extremely sturdy, strong carrying basket with metal eye hook hinges & toggle on the leather strap it is made to very high standards, and can easily tote lunch for the whole family, bottles of wine, towels, a blanket, and maybe even a curious pet who won't be left behind! (It has actually happened!) Ideal for enjoying nature with a picnic, & this wicker willow is naturally waterproof! ;). These baskets are such workhorses, & they are wonderful for anywhere in your home. The natural Willow is the ideal material for weaving a basket to last over a century- thanks to its superb strength, flexibility and durability. . Also Ideal as a quaint storage basket in the home. This large woven willow beauty is not quite perfect, the lid has/ had a short leather strap that attached to the original small metal toggle on the front acting as a lock, but the small leather strap broke. It's no problem, as the lid of the basket does not open when the handles are up in carry mode, so the small leather strap was an extra lock, & can easily be replaced.
