Hand Carved Roses~Meerschaum~Elastic 10 Link Bracelet~Vintage

Intricately Carved Meerschaum Floral Stretch Bracelet Unique Meerschaum beads make up this stretch design bracelet of beautifully hand-carved roses and flowers. (Note pictures with different coins for size comparison.) Despite the large size of the beads, the jewelry is very lightweight. The soft material of Meerschaum tends to discolor with age and use, this is normal & acceptable. This set has some discoloration, see pictures. Circa 1950's. Meerschaum, which means "sea foam", is a natural combination of metal, stone, and water, one of the lightest minerals on earth (it floats!). At the end of the Third Geological Period, the area known today as Turkey emerged from the bottom of the ocean. The fossilized remains of the minute sea animals and their shells were compressed by earthquakes, shifted by successive glacial movements, and finally deposited as small amorphous blocks around Eskisehir, Turkey. Meerschaum is carved into fine jewelry such as pins, necklaces, and bracelets, as well as exquisite animal carvings and pipes. This is a vintage piece and over the years there has been some wear.
