This Halcyon Days enamel box was commissioned by Michigan Bell in 1989. The hand painted enamel design includes the incredible Alexander Calder Stabile as it stood proudly in front of the Michigan Bell building in Detroit from 1973 to 2007.
The sculpture, titled Jeune Fille et Sa Suite (Young Lady and Her Suitors), was later donated by AT&T to the Detroit Institute of Arts where it remains on display. The sculpture is painted steel and was originally installed in red, as shown on the enamel box. It has since been repainted in black, so this Halcyon Days enamel commemorates Calder's original vision as well as an historic part of the Bell Telephone Company.
The original Halcyon Days display box is not available, but a gift box will be included. Two stock photos are shown in the photos of this listing. One shows the Calder stabile in it's current location and color, while the other shows just a glimpse of the piece in it's original location and color. These photos are used to provide context to the design featured on this vintage enamel box.
