stefana @shovelheadgirl hello. Sorry for the delayed response the pants are 17in across at the waist and yes they have the comfort strap along the waist. Hope this helps

shovelheadgirl @stefana thank you! I'm glad I checked - I wear a 12 in most jeans/slacks, but they all vary. I was so hopeful these would be a fit, but sadly, not! Nice, great price too!
