This highly collectible plate honors this handsome house, originally built by Isaac Newell. It has figured in the cultural and social history of Milledgeville, GA from the beginning of Georgia's early capital city 1803-1865. Daniel Pratt is credited with the architectural design, and the home was built with slave labor under the direction of the contractor that built the Old Governor's Mansion.
The home, visited by the aristocracy of the day. was the scene of important meetings and recep-tions. Here in dwelt a family of rare distinction.
