@carolescreation Thank you! It means a lot when people tell me they like the things I make. I’m sure your granddaughter will love the quilt you are making for her, and she will always have those memories of the things her grandmother made for her. I still have lots of my grandmother’s quilts, including the ones we worked on together.

Hi! I have so much respect for quilters and yours are BEAUTIFUL! I have tried quilting and struggle to sew straight enough lines to make them look decent. Do you have any tips for sewing straight lines? I've resigned myself to making items where straight seams don't matter (handmade scrunchies being my favorite to make!). But I just wanted to spread some love to a fellow crafter 💕 Hope you're able to sew during this crazy time we're in!

@ksweetm thank you for your kind words. Sewing straight can definitely be hard to get; it definitely was for me. There are several things you can try to get your lines straighter. For accurate seam allowances, a 1/4” seam foot is a huge help, but it isn’t really good for feeding the material evenly while quilting, so I mostly just use it for piecing the quilt top.

@ksweetm You can also mark your lines, but I’m always afraid it won’t wash out completely, so I only do this on parts that won’t show. For just making the “x” that is traditional for the squares on rag quilts, you can fold the squares in half and press them (iron or finger press) to mark your lines. I’ve also used a toothpick and ruler to mark lines (similar to the effect of using a Hera marker) because the creases go away when you wash the quilt.

@ksweetm Painter tape is probably my favorite for marking straight lines when I’m quilting bc it stays put but is low tack so it won’t damage the fabric when you take it off. Also, the type machine you have helps. Mine has lots of markings for different sizes seam allowances so it’s easier to keep that straight, go slower at first until you get used to it. If your machine doesn’t have the seam allowances lines marked, you can measure it out and put tape on it so you can have a guide.

Sarah makes the most beautiful quilts I’ve ever seen She made a queen rag quilt for me with matching pieces and added so many extra details It is so special to me! She catered to my likes and gave it so much personality I am in the process of gathering my deceased parents clothing to make two more quilts for my sister and I I am confident that Sarah will take great care in making these heirloom pieces for us 🙏🏻❤️
