HAND CRAFTED POTTERY LEAF MAGNET

Artist Saralyn D’Amato (formerly Twomey) Price is per leaf (they will be randomly selected per order) The Process The artist starts with stoneware clay and using a slab roller, rolls out a large clean slate. She then presses in the leaves. She uses leaves native from the type of trees in the region where she resides in Connecticut, which are maple, Japanese maple, and dogwood. After she traces each leaf slightly away from the actual leaf, this is done to leave room for shrinkage in the drying process. The individual leaves are then covered in plastic and monitored for a few days. This is to dry them slowly to prevent cracks and breaks Once dry they are fired. The actual leaf burns away leaving all the veins in the clay. After the first firing. The artist then uses three colors of oxide, yellow, red and green. After the second fireing they are left with a rustic earthy sheen. She has worked with architects in homes that appeared in Architectural Digest. They have enhanced foyer floors and shower walls.
