This polished brass pocket compass is a heavy duty, working model based on the design of John Dollond's scientific instruments from the turn of the century. This is a tribute reproduction of wonderful quality. The compass has a heavy brass case that unscrews to reveal the ornate compass. On the top of the case are the words "Mull of Galloway Scotland's Most Southerly Point" along with an etching of a coastal lighthouse. The brass compass is about 3 inches in diameter and 1/2" thick. It has a glass face protecting the compass. This offering includes a hand rubbed finished Teak-like wooden presentation box as shown. The wood and etched glass box is 5" square and features a history of the magnetic compass. Green felt lined interior. This is a real eye catcher.
