7.70 Carat Brazilian origin Rose de France Amethyst, measuring 14.20 x 9.70 x 7.30mm, is VS clarity and untreated. While the color zoning is slightly more visually striking when photographed than to the naked eye, this gem is stunning, sizable, and SO much fun in person. What even is Rose de France Amethyst? Traditional Amethyst is a deep purple hue, with a high concentration of iron. The more iron, the deeper the tone. Rose de France amethyst is a type of amethyst that comes in lighter, softer lilac shades than compared to standard amethysts, and it has a special property. Rose de France Amethysts are Pleochroistic, and to be officially certified as one they must be Dichroic, meaning to have two colors. In other words, they must be two shades and display different tones, depending on which direction light is shining through the gem. The designation of Rose de France is also to some extent a statement of quality. To officially be assigned this title, at minimum it must have SI Clarity and have a significantly lower proportion of iron. In comparison to common amethyst, which are not rare, these are relatively uncommon, making them somewhat rare.
