Antique George II era sterling silver tea pot by Humphrey Payne of London, England, circa 1748.
Beautiful, simple yet elegant round teapot on a collet foot featuring a raffia wrapped handle in a woven pattern with scroll ends on applied swag designs. Hinged lid with finial lid topper. Lid closes tightly. Hallmark dates this piece to 1748.
Teapot measures approx 10 1/2" tall to top of handle when handle is upright, 5 1/4" high to top of the body of the teapot, 9 1/4" wide from tip of spout to end of the body. Opening measures approx 3 3/4" in diameter. Base measures approx 3 3/8" in diameter.
Weighs approx 1182g, 760dwt, 38toz.
Fully hallmarked on bottom with HP (Humphrey Payne's makers mark that was used 1743-1750) lion (sterling) leopard (London city mark) n (date mark for 1748), also marked with the lion under the lid.
Very nice antique condition, some slight tarnish and discoloration, light surface scratches and a few small dents around the body of the teapot. Some discoloration on the inside of the pot. Overall beautiful for a 270+ year old piece.
