Remember these? Popular in the late 1920’s and beyond the retro 1950’s, Bakelite was a fun and economical alternative to fancy accoutrements, especially during War times, called “Kitchen Jewelry”.
The introduction of Bakelite—the world's first synthetic plastic—in 1907 marked the introduction of the Polymer Age. This vintage beauty was made in the good ‘Ole US of A.
I would not recommend actually using Bakelite in Service because it was manufactured with components that are harmful when airborne and inhaled or ingested. So For Display Only please!
This relic has some staining on the tines, not sure if removable with steel wool. The rich brown handle is in amazing condition.
11” long x 3 3/4” wide

@onegirlforever That I don’t know. I love the depressing era green so I collected the wood handle cookie cutters and this. The cake breaker brings back such sweet memories of all the times my Mom and I had lunch at the Woolworth’s lunch counter! They had THE best German Chocolate cake and used a cake breaker to cut and serve it! See even back then I was into dishes etc.!😂

Hello: You can test whether an item is bakelite by gently rubbing Simichrome (metal polish) on it. No matter what color the item is, the rubbing will come off a deep yellow. Be sure to clean the item after you test it. If you want to learn more about Bakelite, there is a good article: Bakelite - The Material of a Thousand Uses By Brad Elfrink.

@lilanastasia Sweet! I remember sitting in a booth @ drugstore as a child. Apparently, I routinely stole the cutlery…. 😲🙄, I also remember the thin smashed hamburgers, being in love with them bc they were different from what we had at home…. and fountain cokes, You-hoo chocolate drinks… living large! 🤣😃
