GU Undercover Suit (L)

Gu is Uniqlo younger, cheaper brother, so when I was hypnotized into buying the undercover collab (13 years in the making of me lamenting the death of the actual Uniqlo collab) I had some reservations. Some bore out others didn't. First, this is 100% poly, which isn't a deal breaker in a suit. Many of my best friends are 100% poly suits. This one is...ok. Certainly not the cheapest garbage you could find, but it is a poly suit. Close to one a designer like rei kawakubo might use to elevate poly, but not that close. Know what you're getting. Second, this is cut boxy. This is a pro or con but on my shoulders it is unfortunately a con. XL would be too big but would fit across the back Third, the pants are cut baggy. I'm usually between M and L for Uniqlo but the elastic waist means I need an M. Weird combo. That said, for the price they packed. lot of great stuff you don't see at this price: the zipper breast pocket is great, the external piping on the rear of the jacket is cool, functional boutonniere hole, frayed detailing on pockets and sleeves. Cool! The pants have a neat phone pocket and a d-ring for keys. one flapped rear pocket, one jetted. drawstring waistband. Just a lot of cool details I love, a great way to dress down a suit or dress up doing whatever you do in a black suit that's not going to a funeral. Maybe be Yakuza. Best for someone who's into experimentation but doesn't have a lot of money and maybe should work out more to lose the Post-College belly.
