GRANDIOSE 1950s' BLACK FELT & FAUX LAMB WIDE BRIM HAT + TALL OSTRICH FEATHERS

This is a stunning black felt and faux black lamb fur hat from the fashionable 1950s'! The round crown is surrounded by a very wide upturned brim. The visible part of the brim is made of faux lamb fur, and the inside is made of felt. There is a wide band around the crown, which ends in a bow at one side back. There are tall and wonderful black ostrich feathers projecting forwards and upwards, secured by the bow. This is a showstopper hat! Throughout the 1950s, ladies wore hats daily as a part of their attire as was a pair of gloves. To preserve its market, the millinery industry set about creating variety and extravagance. They were now touted as the essential accessory to complete the ensemble. Alternatively, ‘pancake’, ‘platter’, ‘mushroom’ or ‘cart wheel’ hats were reviving turn of the century styles.
