GEODE- Split- Polished Septarian nodule. A geode is a rock containing a cavity lined with crystals or other mineral matter. The image shows a Septarian nodule. It is a sedimentary rock composed of calcite, aragonite, and limestone. They are often found with yellow calcite patterns and sometimes tiny crystals. Geodes found in desert environments can contain various minerals, including calcite, aragonite, and limestone. While limestone itself is not typically found in geode form, it can be a precursor to the minerals found within geodes, as it is composed mainly of calcite. Desert environments can provide the right conditions for geode formation, including evaporation and mineral deposition. The arid climate, as in California and Utah deserts, often leads to the concentration of minerals in the surrounding rock.
