"Monday's child is fair of face" is a nursery rhyme that describes the characteristics of children born on each day of the week:
Monday: Fair of face
Tuesday: Full of grace
Wednesday: Full of woe
Thursday: Has far to go
Friday: Loving and giving
Saturday: Works hard for a living
Sunday: Bonny and blithe, and good and gay
The rhyme is believed to date back to the early 19th century, but the tradition of fortune telling by day of birth may be much older, possibly as far back as the 16th century.
The phrase "Thursday's child has far to go" can have multiple interpretations. Some say it's a good thing, meaning the child is destined for greatness. Others say it's a bad thing, meaning the child will have a hard life.
This rhyme was first recorded in A. E. Bray's Traditions of Devonshire (Volume II, pp. 287–288) in 1836
