The event has grown from a local event into a major fundraising effort benefiting Fisher House, a top-rated charity that provides housing and transportation to wounded military members and their families. Last year’s New Year's day event had more than 1,000 swimmers, 6,000 spectators and raised more than $70,000 for Fisher House. The Plunge, which is free and open to the public, has become a popular tradition with both locals and visitors to Brigantine and takes place at noon.
