historically significant garment from world-famous and museum archived designer, Ceil Chapman.
A true collectors piece- showcasing her signature draping (done by hand). Ceil Chapman is known to be the “inventor” of this draping style. This particular color and silhouette were made famous by Ceil’s well-known client, Marilyn Monroe.
The top is gorgeous - it curves over the bust in a hand placed draping technique which emphasizes the bust line. The shoulders are cut a bit wide so the ruched sleeves start right on the outer portion of the shoulder for the most flattering of necklines. You can clearly see the hand work form the other side. The neck dips in a V, as does the back, and both sides are pleated as only Ceil Chapman dresses are!
The skirt swings out from the nipped in waist. It is absolute perfection from the shoulders to the edges of its hand rolled skirt hem! Extremely pretty and romantic.
The exterior silk is a feather light chiffon and this is placed over a soft pink mesh layer and pink interior layer.
Very good Vintage Condition. This dress is approximately 73 years old ! It’s either later 40’s or early 50’s Wow. This item is for collectors. There may be some very small signs of its age but not noticeable to the eye when wearing. please review photos as this is final sale
