This exquisite etching by R Hovet features a portrait of a man in profile wearing a distinguished top hat. The artwork is a fine example of realism style and showcases the artist's talent in etching technique. The piece is framed and matted, bears the artist's signature, and is numbered 12/50, making it a wonderful addition to any art collection. There are a few scuffs and nicks on the edge of the frame reflecting its age. It is an archival/conservation quality frame with heavy duty picture hangers on each side. The exact age is unknown to me, but it hung in my parents home for at least 40 - 45 years.
Plate size: 4 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches. Framed size: 16 x13 x 1 1/2 inches.

Fun Top Hat Facts:
The first top hat was worn by a haberdasher, John Hetherington, in 1797 and caused a near riot. He was taken to court for the disturbance.
A French magician was the first to use a top hat out of which to pull a rabbit.
Fred Astair and Gary Cooper, among others, were responsible for the top hat making a fashion comeback in the 1930's.
A Top Hat is the headgear of choice for such notables as: Harpo Marx, the Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania Ground Hog Club, Slash of Guns N' Roses, the Worshipful Master in Freemasonry, Rich Uncle Pennybags (Monopoly) and magicians around the world!
