Acknowledgments This Visitor's Manual was created through the cooperation of many people. The berthing process Elizabeth Ministry has been a very long labor of love. Words are inadequate to express appreci stion for the contributions of all those who have influenced the ministry. Many of them will re main unnamed due to the vast space otherwise needed to include all who helped. Thanks to those who planted the seeds of Elizabeth Ministry and those who continue to nourish its development. 1 want to express appreciation to the many people who have become Elizabeth Ministers and touch the lives of so many women and their families. We rejoice that this church based effort has been modified for hospitals, prison ministry and other institutions by those who see its potential. I am extremely pleased that it has been embraced by members of many other faith traditions. The name Elizabeth Ministry came to my heart while being inspired by the work of Sister Elizabeth Ruth Obbard. Her generosity in sharing artwork found on these pages is greatly appreciated. Spe cial thanks to my dear friend, the late Rev. Kurt Gessner, who supported this ministry with wis dom, encouragement, and advice. He was so involved in the development and implementation of Elizabeth Ministry, that I refer to him as the co-founder.
