2 quick questions - Is it possible to fold the handles down flat against the bag or are they made to stay up like in the photo? Also are there hooks on the sides of the bag where I could attach a shoulder strap?

Thanks for the questions.
The handles do lay flat against the bag. I'll post a photo showing this. There are only rings on the handle that attach to the purse. I think you could add a gold chain on one side and then attach the other side on the opposite side.
