Elegant Amber Glass Bowl

This is a vintage iridescent carnival glass ruffled bowl, possibly in a marigold hue.  Carnival glass is a type of pressed or molded glass manufactured during the early 1900s that was treated with metallic oxides while still hot to give it a lustrous, iridescent coating.  The surface treatment creates a rainbow-like appearance, similar to oil on water, due to light interference patterns.  It was designed to mimic much more expensive hand-blown iridescent art glass from makers like Tiffany.  The glass was a popular household item, known for its aesthetic qualities as decor and functionality as dishware.
