Early 20th-century majolica-style pitcher features a celadon-toned green glaze over molded lotus leaves and gentle wave textures, with a dark cobalt wash at the foot. A sculpted fish-form handle adds an unexpected decorative element that feels symbolic of abundance and good luck. The interior is finished in a smooth off-white glaze, suitable for functional use or display.
During the 1910s–1930s, many Japanese export kilns produced pond-themed wares for the American market, incorporating Eastern natural motifs and slightly rustic firing characteristics. This piece shows fine overall crazing, minor glaze skips, and a small handle fissure that appears original to firing. Heavy in hand, it works beautifully as a decorative jug, small flower vessel, or tabletop accent.
