Superb describes this Art Nouveau period Tab handled hand-painted Service piece. Very heavy gold juxtaposed against delicate pink flowers with greenery. The gold is most impressive. No chips cracks crazing, one small area has a very minor loss of gold circled; given its age, nothing to complain about. I especially like the holes on the back so you can suspend it from a pretty satin ribbon for hanging. The hallmark indicates that this was decorated at Jean Pouyat Studios located in Limoges, France. The studio used this mark from circa 1890 to 1932. The date on the mark is a patent date, was produced sometime after 1906. The JPL back stamp of the wreath mark was used from 1906 to 1932. The Pouyat family has history in pottery going back to the 1700s. In 1832 François Pouyat started a small factory and Jean Pouyat took over in 1840 and ran it until 1911. That was when the Jean Pouyat company merged with William Guerin and Co.. After World War I both companies became part of Bawo and Dotter. The Jean Pouyat marks were used until 1932, when Bawo and Dotter went out of business.
