Dungeons & Dragons Module S4 The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth 9061 TSR 1982
S4: The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth, written by Gary Gygax and published by TSR in 1982, is a high-level (10–14) adventure for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, set in the World of Greyhawk.
The adventure begins with the player characters investigating rumors of a legendary treasure hidden in the Yatil Mountains—the lost hoard of the archmage Iggwilv. To reach the caverns, the party must first survive a dangerous wilderness trek featuring 20 distinct encounters, including hill giants, a gnome vale, and orcs capturing hippogriffs.
Once inside, they explore two dungeon levels: the Lesser Caverns and the Greater Caverns, filled with deadly monsters, traps, and powerful magic. The caverns are infamous for introducing or showcasing numerous creatures later featured in Monster Manual II, including demon princes like Graz'zt and Fraz-Urb'luu.
The climax occurs in the Inner Sphere, where the party confronts Drelnza, a vampiric fighter and the daughter of Iggwilv, who guards her mother’s treasure on an alabaster slab. Defeating her yields immense rewards, including unique magic items.
The module is notable for its integration into Greyhawk lore and its influence on later adventures, such as The Forgotten Temple of Tharizdun. It was re-released in the Dungeons of Dread collection and updated for 5th Edition in Quests from the Infinite Staircase (2024).
