aakelly05 @corin1965 hello! it does not say what the base metal is, I have always assumed it was sterling silver, however it is platinum plated, so the ring has always had a nice shine to it. It definitely has a bright gleam to it, different than silver with that platinum coating. I have this ring as well (this one was my mother's) and it has not turned colors or anything.
