A lovely vintage Diya, which is an oil lamp commonly used in India, particularly during festivals like Diwali.
Diyas symbolize the triumph of light over darkness, and are traditionally filled with vegetable oil or ghee (clarified butter) and a cotton wick is placed inside and lit to provide light. Diyas are an essential part of Hindu religious practices and are used for worship and decoration.
Made from terracotta and pained a lovely green and copper/gold, this also has beautiful peacocks and has attributes of a sunflower.
Approximate measurements are 4” by 3” and about 1.5” tall.
