This large, staved teak fruit bowl, or salad bowl, was designed by Jens Quistgaard in the 1960's and handmade in Denmark for Dansk Designs.
Quistgaard is highly regarded for his sculptural approach to homeware design, and his stylistic contributions to the mid-20th century domestic setting. His influence & importance is most notable in the USA, where his design work for Dansk was so successful that one could argue, by the 1960's, that your dinner party was simply not 'modern' without the presence of his work. Resultantly, Quistgaard is more responsible than any other designer for popularising the aesthetics of Scandinavian design in mid-20th Century America.

The straight-sided walls taper gently inwards, whilst the bevelled lower part makes the object appear, almost, to float.
The bowl was carved on a lathe by a skilled craftsperson, and is made
