The laces allow to lace up the shoes according to your comfort and they have a zipper in the back of the heel. I am noting these are sized 8M but they do run slightly narrow and not meant for wide sizing. The heel is approximately 4-1/2 inches high and there is a built in platform inside that graduate from approximately 3/4 inches at the arch to approximately 1/2 inches at the toe.
