Currier and Ives prints provide a vivid picture of daily life in 19th-century America. This listing is for a single page from the 1950 Travelers Insurance calendar. The picture itself is 13.5 inches x 8.5 inches. Because this print comes from a calendar, it has uneven edges. Otherwise it is in good condition. Please keep in mind this is a vintage item and it may have slight imperfections.
The Travelers Company of Hartford, CT first began printing its promotional Currier & Ives calendar in 1936, which became so famous.
Nathaniel Currier (1813-1888) and James Merritt Ives (1824-1895) were partners in the firm of Currier and Ives, the most important 19th-century lithographic company in America. The star artists of the firm were Arthur F. Tait, who specialized in sporting scenes; Louis Maurer, who executed genre scenes; Fanny Palmer, who liked to do picturesque panoramas of the American landscape; and George H. Durrie, who supplied winter scenes.
