First, a little history about black pearls:
The Tahitian pearl (or black pearl) is an organic gem formed from the large black lip oyster, called “Pinctada margaritifera”, found in the coastal waters of Peru, Baja California, Panama, Indonesia, Micro-Nesia, the Red Sea, the Philippines, and Okinawa, as well as French Polynesia, around Tahiti.
Historically, natural black pearls have been one of the rarest and most exotic of gem materials. In the 1960s, however, a black pearl cultivating industry was initiated, and today, cultivated black pearls play a prominent role throughout the international jewelry community.
Within the pearl industry, the term “Black” is used to describe any pearl with a dark body color. In reality, within the Tahitian pearls, we see dark greens, blues, purples, silver, gray, and the most coveted, coloration, “peacock”.
If you look carefully at all of the different photos of these Tahitian earrings, you will see that the color of these pearls often falls into that “peacock”category. These pearls are truly gorgeous, especially the rare color variations with light reflections.
These cultivated black Tahitian pearl earrings measure 9 mm size, and are set in 14 karat yellow gold posts and backs, made for pierced ears. Weight is 2.64 grams. These earrings are in excellent condition; they are brand new and never been worn. Please try to bundle and save on shipping.
