By ceramic artist K.S. O'Brien: An awesome one-of-a-kind hand-made art pottery planter / bowl / vase / fertility goddess vessel? / marine-life sculpture. The black, blue and red-legged glazed planter has silver ceramic balls attached to embedded silver wires all over it, and from these silver balls hover (optional) detachable rubber sharks, each with a ball in its mouth, as if feeding on them like the marine science reef balls in use in oceans around the world. The sharks can also be replaced with any other rubber fish or animal (we got ours at the versatile store Archie McPhee) or removed altogether for a more Parisian Pompidou Center Fountain sort of look--vibrant color, whimsical form. Add a plant for stylish practical purpose or just enjoy the sculptural aspects of this unique piece by a bold ceramic artist formerly of Seattle, now in Michigan.
Size: 12-1/2" T x 6-1/4" diameter at top of red rim.
Condition: Excellent. A couple of small unglazed spots and wee bits of chipped blue glaze under the four feet mix so well with the white-glazed undersoles that they are not perceptible (see picture); one small break in bottom 1/2" of one foot was repaired by artist prior to sale--never noticed it until examined for this listing; NOT noticeable.
