(7/14/18) This vintage briefcase is durable & classic. As Coach started to make fabric & vinyl bags, their vintage items appear to be better quality. They never come apart like the new items. It has some scratches on the leather. There is a strip of leather that is stitched inside that was glued for reinforcement, but needs to be re-glued yet doesn't effect its use.
Madison model Serial # 303-01 & Made in Korea.
*Please read comments
I am pretty sure it is Coach as I have seen similar ones for sale online. If you question its authenticity, please research first as a mature and intelligent person would do. I have not yet found any information to prove it is not authentic. However, I am reposting it as I am still confident in its authenticity in spite of some deniers who could not show me actual proof otherwise.
Some websites counter the claim that Coach was made in Korea. Some websites claim they were and some say no. I find the ones that state they were have quotes from actual employees and references. These articles state that in the 1990s it was cheaper to manufacture overseas & price of leather was less. I even chatted directly with an employee at their headquarters who confirmed this but could not get written documentation.
I do state in the brand listing- Coach? - “?” due to the questionable opinions & comments I got from past listing of this item.
Fake? Prove it!

As I mentioned in the description- there is just some tears in leather from wear, and there is a strip of leather inside for reinforcement that needs to be re glued but does not effect its wear. But I do want to add that there is a slight discoloration of the leather on the bottom edging but that is minor.
Jul 11Reply

disneygurl2u
The tears are more like scratches in the leather. Tears is the wrong term to use here actually as there is no holes and the bag is in great condition over all.

disneygurl2u
This is very heavy and durable leather. It has withstand use for more then 40 years which should say something about the quality. It is in almost new shape with only a few scratches in the leather. New Coach items are made now with fabric and vinyl. I have had a new Coach purse that actually came apart. New stuff is just not of the same quality as the old classics. Even though this bag is very durable, I still would not recommend placing a laptop computer in it.

disneygurl2u
I guarantee it is 100% authentic! Proof is in the bag as it is stamped by the trademark.

disneygurl2u
Someone tried to state that this product is fake. I guess they must not know Coach brands well. I have reported her accusation and blocked her.
Aug 15Reply

disneygurl2u
Check out my images as they prove it is real and look up these old bags. My price is reasonable especially since it is made of really thick leather.
Aug 15Reply

disneygurl2u
Not only have I researched on authenticity of Coach brands heavily over the years, but I have also really examined this bag. It is real and it is way worth the price I am asking for it.

Just in case anyone else suspects what I am selling is not authentic then I welcome you to research on what are the warning signs and to ask me questions. I am willing to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Aug 15Reply

tadpolesresale
This is 100% real. People need to get a life and stop thinking they know what they are talking about with regards to authenticity. I came across this while reviewing reported listings and I did not agree with the report. Sorry that this happened to you. If you can get some clearer pics, especially of the creed, that will definitely help though. :)
Aug 16Reply

disneygurl2u
Okay, but just curious - what is the creed? There is a serial number in the bag. I will add it to the description.
Aug 16Reply

disneygurl2u
Thanks for for verifying this is authentic and confirming that I was right.
Aug 16Reply

disneygurl2u
Just one more thing I want to add, I am glad that Poshmark does care that items for sale are authentic. It is tragic though when people make assumptions as if they are some kind of expert and know what they are talking about.
Aug 16Reply

disneygurl2u
People should ask the seller first about any concerns that they may have in regards to authenticity. But I can understand that not every seller is trustworthy or would even know what they are selling is authentic or not. As for me, I would never sell a knock off here. All my items are real. That is a guarantee.
Aug 16Reply

disneygurl2u
Good question - it was made in Korea
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Oh no...I better take this item off. Thanks for that, everything looks authentic but no Coach bag ever was made in Korea
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Actually, I read a blog on Ebay that states that Coach bags have been manufactured in Korea in past.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
I will do some more research.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
I won't take off the bag yet until I know for sure about this issue. But it does have the serial number which matches up with others online. The think leather is real and the Coach stamped trademark can be seen in the bag. But the question now is -were Coach bags ever made in Korea?
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
“ I have also heard that Coach does NOT make bags in Korea or Thiland – so if you see a “Made in Korea” or “Made in Thailand” tag then you’ll know it’s fake. Bags sold on the “DHgate” website (and similar sites) are NOT authentic!!! http://bagbible.com/blog/how-to-spot-a-fake/coach/
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
and yet - here it states that Coach has been made in Korea

Re: Are Coach Purses Made in Korea
in reply to gladys61545 Apr 17, 2015 2:11:46 PM
Yes, I have been to the Coach manufacturer in Korea. For some leather manufacturing processes, the US EPA is so strict that it just cannot be done here anymore. I used to work for a tannery that worked with Coach. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Archive-Fashion/Are-Coach-Purses-Made-in-Korea/td-p/23861910
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
I contacted Coach headquarters about the bag through email to verify that Coach bags have indeed been made in Korea. Till then, I think it is best to place the bag as "Not for sale" temporarily.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
How do you know Christy?
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
PLEASE NO ACCUSATIONS. I WILL VERIFY IF THIS COACH BAG IS REAL AND MAKE SURE. IF YOU CLAIM IT IS FAKE THEN TELL ME WHY....PROVE IT. IF YOU JUST STATE IT ISS FAKE WITHOUT STATING AS TO WHY THEN I WILL REPORT YOUR MESSAGE AS OFFENSIVE AND BLOCK YOU.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
The only thing that I would question about this bag's authenticity is where it is made. It states it was made in Korea but were Coach bags ever made in Korea. Some Internet sources say yes and some say no. That is why I have decided to place the item on - Not for sale - till I can confirm it is in all confidence so no one can accuse me of selling counterfeit items.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
The only item in question is where it is made, the thick leather is real, the brass buckles are real, the serial number matches with others online. I have contacted Coach headquarters to clarify this and get a definite answer. I will not just take what someone here claims as definite as if they are some expert on Coach. I want an definite answer from a person who works for the company. That will determine if and when I will reopen the item for sale.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Okay, I contacted Coach directly, YES THEY SOURCE WITH KOREA. KOREA IS INDEED A MANUFACTURER. I chatted with someone at Coach. But I have also emailed the headquarters. As soon as I get the reply, I will copy the reply here to prove it is authentic and no more people questioning its authenticity.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
@christyann22 Then why when I type in the serial number online it matches up with other exact models of this bag? There I would have to disagree with you.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
The last comment I made is to response to Christy Ann claiming that the serial number is one used by Coach. It appears to me that she is wrong!
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
AND HERE IS ONE COACH BAG JUST EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE I AM SELLING HERE THAT SOLD (NO MENTION AS TO WHERE IT WAS MADE HOWEVER-https://poshmark.com/listing/Vintage-Coach-Briefcase-5bbe8951aa8770600b772e2f
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
So apparently this exact Coach briefcase bag has sold on Poshmark before but interesting they had no problem selling the item like I have. But as an honest and trustworthy person I am, I will get this bag verified before I place it back up for sale.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Notice the link I posted above in regards to a bag that sold on Poshmark that was exactly like mine. No one questioned it was authentic however on the trademark stamp inside, it does not state where it was made. My bag does and it states it was made in Korea.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Again, I used the chat feature to ask this question to some Coach representative and they told me that they source with Korea. I have also read that do to regulations, indeed yes Coach bags have been made in Asian countries. But as I promised, I will not place this bag back on sale till I can get an actual email from Coach headquarters that confirms it and I can copy/paste here.
Aug 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Still trying to verify the authenticity of this bag.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
UPDATE: I wrote directly to the Coach company and they would not confirm that Coach bags have been made in Korea or that the serial number is legit. Here is what I do know from research, the serial number 303-01 is legit as when I looked it up I found other bags exactly like this one including one that sold here on Poshmark that did not even have listed where it was made, that would seem more suspicious to me then a bag that states exactly where it is made.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
Second, that through research most referenced articles stated that Coach bags are sourced from Asia as the regulations are more lenient. The articles that stated that Coach bags that are counterfeit include ones made in Asia were not well referenced. I did chat with a Coach representative who told me that Coach sources its bags from Korea as well as other areas.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
But regretfully, I could not get that in writing. As I mentioned, I wanted to get an email to confirm that and copy/paste it here to relieve any concerns that this bag is a fake, but could not.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
I am 99% sure this Coach bag is the real thing. It is made with real thick durable leather which was common of Coach bags in the 1980s - 1990s. It have the trademark Couch stamp in the bag along with a traceable serial number 303-01, the metal used appears to be brass and it is typical in style of the earlier briefcase bags.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
My dad bought a Coach purse for my mom in the late 1990s at Macys that had the exact type of leather. There is just that 1% hesitation in regards to its authenticity in regards to the made in Korea aspect however, a Coach representative told me they have been made in Korea in the past, I cannot verify this here with any actual written statement. With Coach purses, you are always running the risk of getting a fake. But this bag appears like the real thing, to me.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
As Poshmark I am aware knows about the issue surrounding this bag I want to sell here. I heard that some people have reported this item as a fake which is exactly why I heavily researched on this issue, I did the best I could to verify it is authentic and as for myself, I think it is.
Aug 18Reply

disneygurl2u
I plan to re post this bag to sell. I just hope those people that are inclined to report this bag read my comments here as see the steps I did to try prove its authenticity. It is to your judgement if you want to take my word for it. I hope Poshmark staff also recognize this and accepts this Coach bag as an item that I can sell.

@rena2u Thank you for the useful and good information given. This is a good bag. I have a similar one and they don’t make them this sturdy anymore
Nov 18Reply

disneygurl2u
Thank you lovino for your comments. I sure had to go through a great deal of research to verify this bag's authenticity. The leather on these old bags are so wonderful. Their new bags do not even compare! I bought a new Coach purse recently (actually it was from a consignment store) and it just fell apart after a few uses! The purse was made of fabric and vinyl. It could not even handle much weight! OMG! That Coach tag I am selling actually came from the purse!
Nov 18Reply

disneygurl2u
The one thing I find amazing about this bag is that if is about 35 years old and still looks brand new! The newer Coach bags wear out much faster!

disneygurl2u
I AM FIRM ON THE $175 PRICE OF WHICH IS AN AMAZING BARGAIN FOR THIS ITEM. THE LEATHER IS HEAVY AND EXTREMELY DURABLE. COACH NO LONGER MAKES ITEMS IN THIS QUALITY. EVEN THEN, DUE TO THE POSSIBLE EXTRA COSTS DO TO WEIGHT AND SIZE, I WOULD NOT CONSIDER ANYTHING LESS. THIS ITEM WILL BE SPECIALLY PACKAGED TO PROTECT IT AS IT IS OF HIGH QUALITY AND I WOULD WANT IT TO BE SECURE.

@rena2u i got the report that it’s a replica to review and I happen to have the same black coach briefcase so I voted that I disagreed with the replica report. And that it is real So don’t worry 😉
Jan 30Reply

disneygurl2u
@luvcandybell thanks. Funny how people are reporting this bag. I think it has been three times at least! I would think Poshmark staff would finally stop these critical people who do not know anything about Coach. I even posted a link that showed someone selling the same bag on Poshmark!
Jan 30Reply

disneygurl2u
I have a feeling there is a jealous person on Poshmark who either would like me to really bring down the price or wishes they had one of these to sell.
Jan 30Reply

disneygurl2u
I think I will write directly to Poshmark and tell them, it has been confirmed with heavy research and by a few sellers on Poshmark that this is indeed real and to prevent these unknowledgeable from reporting this item anymore. STOP REPORTING THIS BAG IS FAKE ! If I find out the people who do, I will block them!
Jan 30Reply

disneygurl2u
I am tired of these unknowledgeable critics!
Jan 30Reply

disneygurl2u
I have reported this issue to Poshmark headquarters asking them to not allow this ridiculous reporting that this briefcase is fake and asking them to block who ever does from accessing my closet. I have proven extensively that this bag is real and I am fed up with these idiots!
Jan 30Reply

luvcandybell
@rena2u yah I would think after it was reported and rejected by a few reviewers that they would mark it authentic in the database and stop taking any false reports on it. Hope this helps. It’s good to know there are posters that have each other’s backs :)

@luvcandybell thanks a bunch for your support!
Jan 31Reply

It would be one thing if I knitted a bag and then claimed it was Coach. That would definitely be fake. Or even selling a total knock off that could be found sometimes at swap meets. That would be a good reason to report it. But I have proven that this bag is the real thing.

I HAVE ALREADY WRITTEN TO POSHMARK REQUESTING THEY STOP ALLOWING THESE "FAKE REPORTS" & TO JUST BLOCK WHOEVER REPORTS THIS BAG IS COUNTERFEIT. Before singling me out, please check out the other sellers who are selling the exact bag as well but some do not even post the serial number or creed. I get it now, I am an ambassador 2 so people can easily find my listings now but a simple search will show, sellers (some here, e tsy, e bay, meri curi) who just post the minimum needed on reselling sites and no one questions the authenticity of their bags. So please take that into consideration, thank you.
Jul 17Reply

disneygurl2u
I post everything I know about this bag and research heavily as I believe in being as thorough as possible. But singling me out while others who are selling the exact bag but do not post identifying information I would think are more questionable.
Jul 17Reply

disneygurl2u
Note: I find quite a few sellers post this exact bag for sale on here, e bay, e tsy and Mari ceri but I do not see much information they post about their bags like the serial number or the creed. Although no one asks them to show them those things but they prefer to go after me and with just opinion. Sure appreciate that poshmark has people checking authenticity of items but it can get really irritating.
Jul 18Reply

I have had this item up for sale for 5 years and poshmark has not taken it down. That should say something.

⚠️If you question its authentically, lets talk in the bundle feature only. Do not comment here. Be kind. If you were though an actual employee who worked for Coach manufacturing in the 1990s, I would appreciate your input with a quote or something that can be verified - if I am right then it strengthens its authenticity. If though you, an employee who worked there in the 1990s, can prove it is not authentic, I will take this listing down.
