Closet opening delay - Grr!

Affliction

$0

Not for sale

Like and save for later
Due to unforeseen acts of cantankerous weather gods, my closet will not be up this weekend but next. For those of you not in north central Texas, this means tornado season showed up late this year. Thankfully the few that touched down briefly have been happy to play with a few long-abandoned trailers, but too many hours got spent watching Channel 3's weather dudes try to keep us all from freaking out until it was truly time to freak out. Between that and local flooding, it's been a joyous week!

fancydragon Oh dear. Where at? I hail from Rowlett, right outside Dallas. Now I'm in east Texas, we're also getting annihilated by this late tornado season. One touched town and wrecked several homes just a few streets over a couple weeks ago 😱 stay safe!

singaporejones Add: This is typical north Texas weather in spring. I've grown up with it. We just expect this sort of nonsense in April, not May. 😝 At least we're finally getting rain, and lots of it! Enough that we've had to evacuate five neighborhoods, and the local police are handing out sandbags. It's surreal. So it's technically business as usual, but more business than we typically expect.

singaporejones
singaporejones Also, Idaknow if you ladies think this is worth sharing or not with others? I've chatted with a ton of poshers, but many only on an occasional basis. Hopefully I didn't leave anyone out here, but I was mostly trying to update those of you who might have seen the first "grand opening" date's post, or who know already in about to get my blinkin' closet open. 😜😊 Hope everyone's having a good Memorial Day weekend!
May 24Reply
tomalee
tomalee @singaporejones Can't control the weather, darn it. Stay safe and we will be looking forward to your "opening" whenever weather permits. 😊 thank you for the tag😊😊

singaporejones @fancydragon Ai, you guys may have seen more action than we have. 😯 I'm in Wichita Falls, about half an hour south of the Red River. The tail end of Tornado Alley. ::rolls eyes:: Everything moves to the northwest, and often splits around the city, so we usually don't see damage, but counties right around us sometimes do, especially southern Oklahoma.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @fancydragon We had a hellacious tornado in 1979 - you may have heard of it. Three twisters combined in Oklahoma and headed south, which made no sense, but... At any rate, it was half a mile wide when it crossed the border into Texas. The noise was horrendous. Thankfully no one died - well, a few elderly people did have cardiac events, but no one got tossed around. 😨
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @nystarlight1 Thanks! ☺ 😙 Should be fine. It's like having a fire plan. You know where you're going to go and what you'll have with you. You hope things never get that interesting, of course, but odds are you'll be OK.

singaporejones @rmccouture 😃 Happy Memorial Day to you too! I stumbled across Yoda's "keep calm" on some random site, had to save it. I'm such a Star Wars geek! 😁 The pic of Chewy and Leia that I underlaid in the collage is from a hilarious set of outtake photos from filming.
May 24Reply
fancydragon
fancydragon That was a bit before my time but I've known some people who saw it and one guy who claimed to have "soaked his pants like a hydrant in July". I love Texas talk 😂 I've only personally encountered 2, but that's quite enough for me. Id rather have hurricanes, at least there's some notice of their impending arrival 😲
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture And Yoda would probably find me more frustrating than Luke. "ConcentrraaAAATE!!" (sounds of falling rocks, falling Yoda, and falling Janie, whom Yoda is managing to thump with his walking stick WHILE falling, the little green sot)
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @fancydragon Yeah, I think I'm with you on the hurricanes. 'Nadoes are more "WTFWTFWTF!!" I was 7 when that one happened. It was bizarre. The property damage was immense, and then the US govt didn't do a hell of a lot to help out. But yeah, now we can joke about having pooped our panties. 😃 I heard at school later that one of the boys had "screamed like a girl who just got her period." That's Texas for you. "Lower than a snake's ass in a wagon rut!"

rmccouture You are too funny! I love you! If you would care to switch lives for a day, I would do it. I don't even know you, and I would do it. I swear, I'm either changing my name to Charlie Brown or Chicken LIttle!
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture Awww! 😄 Thank you! That's a huuuge compliment! But you don't want to switch lives with me, trust me. 😜 Don't get me wrong - mine's not bad, just... DULL. DULL dull DULLy dull. 😣 This is the town I grew up in, so there are some good memories here, but WF has a rep for sucking people back in. Like an old chrome-plated Hoover. I know they say bloom where you're planted, but I feel a bit like a tropical flower trying to survive in a mild to temperate zone?
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture There are a lot of nice people here, for certain - but they and I just don't grok each other past a certain level, with few exceptions. We're just not really on the same wavelength. So my social life is a ravening undead, mostly. 😜 It forces me to write more, among other things, but damn, it'd be nice to go out on a date again before I can claim social security?
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture Not trying to sound whiny! Ew! 😅 Just more "it is what it is." I don't plan to live here forever. And it's not like I'm living in Africa walking thirty miles a day just to find potable water. 😨
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture But why Charlie Brown or Chicken Little? I mean, I have a guess or two, but they're just guesses....
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture Before I write anything else; I just noticed that the 2 characters you have up are Chewbacca and Princess Leia. Did you know that those were the names of 2 of my cats??? Yeah, I'm that much of a geek! Dull would be the most fantastic thing I could have in my life Janie... I don't have time for fun. It's lack whack-an-evil-mole in my life. Everyday it's another serious thing... not little bs stuff. Right now, I need to go clean the flood up in my basement, Seriously...
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture And the landlord is coming on Tuesday to inspect, and they're going to raise my rent, and if I can't sell my closet, I can't pay the rent, but I have to clean the flood and the rest of the apartment (it's a townhouse, with three floors, 5 cats and a 10-year-old girl)...
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture Charlie Brown because he has the worst luck in the world, he over-analyzes everything, he's a "good man" but things just don't seem to go his way and he keeps trying... Chicken Little because I swear to God the sky is falling...
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture I visited Texas last year. I didn't get to see much. Anything can be dull when we are uninspired. I live a spitting distance from Manhattan, but my circumstances prevent me from engaging in all of the wonderful things available there... I'd rather write than do anything else, but if I don't start cleaning, I will be miserable... I'm not miserable. It's bad for the aging process to be miserable. I'm just uncomfortable...
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture I need an editor. This chapter of my life has been way too long. Something has got to give so that I can start a new one. I'm bored by the calamity already! You go out and do something un-dull today! Make some trouble, help someone in need... Take some photos and play with the Instagram filters... there's beauty everywhere... except my basement! ❤️❤️
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture Er, I just realized that might have sounded as if I were dissing more temperate flowers... NO NO NO. 😣 (Besides, I tend to come off more temperate in person.) They and I are just different. On the same playing field. Just not quite the same wavelength. ☺
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture Lord, woman, we are having the same problem! OK, spoiler alert... I found out about ten years ago that [HERE BE DRAGONS] I have Bipolar II Disorder. Yay, me. 😝 In retrospect, it likely got started around 27; I'm now 42. It detailed my master's work in literature; it at least contributed to me making an exceptionally poor choice in a mate; and while I'm better at living with it than I was, it is still screwing around with my life. 😖
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones I totally get the financial situation, though granted I don't have a flooded basement. Though I do have a dishwasher, a microwave and one toilet that need attention. Aaagh! I don't have kids - I'm sorry that I missed out on that, but it saved them and me from having to ever see my ex again, which is a blessing, frankly. So I came back here where my folks are, to start over.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones But there's this total limbo feeling, like you're saying. This sense of constant small catastrophes, as opposed to big eat-you-whole ones, granted... But that's part of what I mean by dull. It can feel like so much sound and fury. Though maybe both of our senses of frustration will help us find a way to gut the rut. I don't know. I just know people do it that you'd think have no chance to make it work, the odds seem so against them.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture oh, uh, derailed (ugh) the master's, not detailed (??)
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture I hear you my friend. My best friend has bipolar disorder. It's not easy for her. She gets wildly and brilliantly creative when she's up, and she likes that... but then she has to deal with the downs, and the ups can be more dangerous than the downs can be. It's a disease that tells you that her that she doesn't have a disease, so she will occasionally go off of her meds, which is just not a good idea...
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture Or the meds stop working... it's a lot of tinkering, but it's better than the alternative. I know other people with untreated bipolar disorder, and they are next to impossible to maintain friendships with... Unfortunately, none of my catastrophes are minor. The flood isn't even minor, because it's attached to a major issue. I don't like to focus on what's wrong with my life, because focusing on the problems just prevents me from seeing the solutions with which to solve them...
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones I hope the basement goes faster than you fear it will. 😕 I suspect you are more successful than you think, too. Joseph Campbell points out that the hero never feels as if he's getting anywhere, that it's all he can do to stay where he is and not slide backward, like Alice in Wonderland, running as fast as she can to stay in place. But that's the hero's view because he can't see himself from a distance.
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture Everything is as it needs to be in this moment. I have faith. IDK when you got divorced and moved back to your home town. I was divorced in 2012, but couldn't leave town because of our daughter, so I have to deal with a good man who is very mentally ill, and watch my daughter develop under some excruciating circumstances, on top of watching my dad leave reality more and more every day due to Dementia...
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture That alone would maybe be enough... but there's more than just that, and I just need to put one foot in front of the other and stay focused on what I can change (me) instead of what I can't (everything else). My basement doesn't get wifi, and that's where I'm headed. I'm really upset because I want to sell my stuff, but I need to get this done, or my stuff will be destroyed (yeah, all of my posh items are in the aforementioned basement...)
May 24Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture Move a muscle, change a thought Janie! The Force will be with us both. We just need to choose to stay out of the Dark Side... Sending much love, solidarity and appreciation your way! ❤️‍❤️‍
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture It takes another person to see that the hero is in fact making progress *all the time* - simply because he is dealing with life as it comes, trying to do the right thing, never knowing how it will turn out... but *never not trying.* That's where I think a lot of us get Yoda wrong. He's not saying that trying doesn't count. He's saying that to think that you're only trying is to do yourself a disservice.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture In attempting, you *are* doing. And if you have it in you to assay things at all, you have it in you to accomplish them. Yoda says Luke fails because he doesn't believe. And you can't believe in other things, really, if you don't believe in yourself. Yoda is telling Luke that *all he needs to do to succeed is to believe that he can* - and that after that kind of victory,
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture however much hard, exhausting work there is to be done in training, however many times Luke questions himself, his role, his belief, all of it... he will still have that kernel within him that knows, in a quiet, undeniable way, that this too shall pass, and the question is not if one shall find the sun again, but merely when.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture Now that I've practically written an essay and fulfilled your assignment 😄 I'll just add that there are good reasons we all love Charlie Brown and Chicken Little. They keep going, no matter what, even if the sky *is* falling. That doesn't stop them. They are brave, and they are dogged. They are loyal and kind.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture Charlie believes that one day Lucy will not pull the football away. Chicken Little believes the sky is in fact falling and that he must warn the others so that no one gets hurt. Both are aware that they are and will be laughed at for persisting in these beliefs. But they still persist. Their belief in something greater than themselves, where even the impossible is possible, is their star and covenant.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture True, they're dreamers. They're romantics. And the world is often not kind to such folk. But such folk are kind anyway, because that is what matters most to them, because they know how much it mattered to them when someone showed them kindness, and they know how many people need kindness, and rarely receive it.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture I'll close (finally) with a reference to a song I think you should listen to, if you don't know it: "Extraordinary Machine" by Fiona Apple. And see the animated Chicken Little if you haven't. It's absolutely hilarious but also very poignant.
May 24Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @rmccouture And remember that there *is* no trying - only doing, or not doing. Embracing a thing, however awkwardly, or refusing it. Just because you don't feel like you *know* WTH you're doing doesn't mean you're not *doing* it. And if you can and do choose to do that thing, knowing how little you know of it - well, learning the thing itself is a small victory, really, in comparison to the victory of having chosen to believe that you CAN learn it. That you CAN, and WILL, and as a result, DO.

singaporejones @vacat No joke. (I thought I remembered you were a former Dallas dame. 😊) I and my folks are OK, but three neighborhoods in town have been evacuated, and the roads around some of the smaller ranches have been deemed impassable. OTOH, some of the lakes are up ten feet! I just wish Texas weren't so all-or-nothing. And it never bothers with transitions. I'd hate to try having a conversation with it! 😜

I saw you'd liked the same Weitzmans I was asking her the style name for (I'm a 6), is all. We were just chatting, so I think the block was unintentional. Any thoughts on how to get in touch with her? I started this listing since I thought I could tag her, but I don't know if tags list to someone's feed if they've blocked you. :/ Thanks for any advice!

May 28Reply
rmccouture
rmccouture Okay, so I just tagged you in her closet. I don't know if you are blocked or not, but I am going to assume that if you are, you didn't get the tag. She said that she was going to be away for work, and would get back to you, so it may just be that she forgot, or she is still away. At any rate, the style name of the shoes is the Upsy Hibiscus Wedge. The color she has is Hibiscus Aniline. Hope this helps!❤️‍
May 28Reply

singaporejones @rmccouture Did get the tag - thanks! When I try to share or comment on one of her listings, it says I'm blocked from the closet. 😕 And no, I haven't found a PFF we have in common yet, from checking through her listings. I asked Alexis, but she doesn't "know" her either. I'll just check back periodically, since I'd like to be able to like or share her listings....

jflittlequail @singaporejones, herein these comments lies the wisdom of the ages. The scope of life experience and encouragement on the virtue of never giving up is truly inspiring to an old young woman who needs encouragement to keep going on and on and on. I'm retired from higher education and have coronary artery disease. I underwent emergency quintuple bypass surgery 6 years ago. Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles WELLlll, I be thinkin' ... OH FIRK YOU $125 for boots and bag, hm, $90 + $45 = $135... Well, on the bag, I was thinking maybe I'd pay 30% down = $30 via funds tranfer on p to you. You request the funds and add a note about what it's for. I send you your requested amount with a note agreeing to terms. That way we have a contract, which protects us both.
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles Not trying to be paranoid. I contract often as a freelancer, and find that stipulating terms up front, in unusual situations especially (like layaway and variations on it), makes everyone rest easier. 😉
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles Then you mark the bag NFS. When i have the rest of the cash, i contact you, you drop the price to the remaining balance, and I purchase right then. How does that sound?
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles I figured I'd pitch the same to our other lovely lady with the matching suitcase. ☺
Jun 18Reply
luxeamour
luxeamour I totally understand! Well to be honest, when i do transactions through p, i like using the friends & fam option due to fees. I know its not ideal but 🤔
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles Oh, sorry, that's what i meant! You can add a note to the buyer with f&f - say, "30% down payment on $90 Poshmark vintage makeup case. Remaining balance to be paid by [first week of August] at latest, preferably before. Final payment will be made in Poshmark. Seller agrees to these terms." Then I add "Buyer agrees to seller's terms and understands down payment is forfeit if remaining balance is not paid."
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones That constitutes a legal and binding contract as it is written. Protection for both seller and buyer. This is how i handle a lot of payments for freelance work.you don't need a big complex document for a binding contract. My dad practiced business law for 40 years, so i know this is both legal and admissible in court if needed, and stands as a sufficient agreement in such situations.
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles and I only add all that because sometimes sellers aren't aware of that, and it's a method of making transactions more secure when using convenient payment options like p.
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles If that sounds reasonable to you, I'll ask the other lady to check out these details here and see how she feels about such a possible arrangement. If that's 👍👍, you both get down payments under largely identical terms.
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles And I have GOT to get back to sleep or cookies and gift wrapping will not happen before 4 pm! Just LMK your thoughts when you feel certain about what you're willing to do. (I have good feedback on ebay as w3ndl3m3i3r.) Thanks very much! *green boots grrRrr firk ding BLAAST firk SIGH. Uh. singaporejones @misssdanielles Add this morning: hope all that didn't freak you out or something. 😜 And the Aug 1 date was inserted as an example date only - prob would've been clearer to insert "mm-dd-yy."
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones Dad always stressed the need to set up even small contracts involving $ since it protects both parties, and more importantly helps avoid misunderstandings later, which can sometimes turn friends into not-friends. 😯 And I've seen that happen. So I stopped thinking he was being over-the-top and started following his advice. 😞👍☺
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles Actually, I have a thought (a THOUGHT! Grab it quick before it escapes!)... Would you mind putting the suitcase on hold just through this evening? My birthday is this month, and Mom had asked me for ideas since she hadn't found anything she really liked. I thought I might ask her about your suitcase and charitylane's. Would that be alright?
Jun 18Reply
singaporejones
singaporejones @misssdanielles OK, charitylane is holding the other suitcase for me for right now, so if you don't mind doing the same for the makeup case, I'll get back to you ladies tomorrow afternoon at latest. ☺ Is that ok with you, madame?
