"Chewing On the News" by Brynn Rothberg, acrylic, modpodge, and magazine, 2022

This painting, which is a personal favorite of some of the art I've made, is magazine clippings which are painted over with modpodge and then on top of that acrylic is painted. Depicting a woman reading and chewing bubble gum, she is supposed to be reading the news. This specific situation is supposed to represent how even when the news and what's going on/happening around us is right in front of our faces, we treat it nonchalantly and act like we didn't see it, could/can do nothing, or are appalled at all the others but we aren't a part of it. She calls us all out by ignoring us, in a way. This work is about the size of a square dinner plate, actual dimensions are to be provided soon.
