COVETED AND REGISTERED DESIGNER 1940s' BROWN FELT & TAFFETA TILT HAT

This is a high fashion brown felt and taffeta tilt hat by famous designer J. Howard Hodge. THIS HAT ISN REGISTERED, PER THE LABEL INSIDE THE HAT.The round "cap" and the short, upturned brim are made of brown felt, and the back of the hat is made of taffeta strips...There is one taffeta strip across the top of the felt cap, ending in bows at one side. An elastic band is attached. Precious!!! Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
