"Test for Echo" is Rush's 16th studio album, released in 1996, and it's considered a somewhat mixed bag by critics and fans. The album, co-produced by Peter Collins (his last collaboration with Rush), features a title track that showcases Geddy Lee's "flamenco bass" and a song called "Driven" that's become a live showcase for Lee's bass playing. The lyrics, as usual, are thought-provoking, but some critics felt the band's playing lacked a certain spark compared to earlier albums like "Counterparts". The album includes tracks like "Resist" with its poignant lyrics and vocals, as well as more unconventional tracks like "Dog Years" and "Totem," which are enjoyed by some. Overall, while not one of Rush's strongest albums, it remains a solid addition to their discography, particularly for fans.
