George and Betty Cleminson founded California Clay (later California Cleminsons) in their garage in Monterey Park, California, in 1941 and continued to produce idiosyncratic, highly stylized kitchenware and decorative items until 1963; the marriage of whimsy and function in their creative designs makes Caltempo pottery deservedly prized today. They produced dinnerware, kitchen items, serveware, vases and plaques. The Fish Fin pattern was designed by Marcel Hoessly who worked for Cleminson Pottery in the 1950's.
