Paperback, 228 pages, published 1997. 7 x 10 inches. Black-and-white illustrations and a middle section with color plates.
Very good used condition. Some scuffing on the cover from being shelved and minor cosmetic wear on the corners and edges. I erased a couple of pencil marks, but otherwise this is in great shape. No cracks in the binding and all pages are intact.
"A lavishly illustrated sketching and watercolor primer that reveals how creating art can enhance any wilderness experience. With a skillful blend of inspiration and instruction in technique, artist and naturalist Cathy Johnson offers personal anecdotes, exercises, and helpful tips to guide first-time or long-time artists in using sketching and painting to deepen their understanding of the natural world. Features simple, step-by-step instructions and nearly 300 examples of the author's own work, covering a broad range of subjects: tools and equipment; mixing paints and washes; understanding color and using a color wheel; capturing the illusion of light; sketching clouds, flowers, trees, plants, and animals; and using field sketches as studies for future paintings."
I also have a listing for a book called You Can Paint Watercolors. I think I bought this book around the same time and they both offer clear and practical advice with beautiful illustrations. I've been exploring my own art process for many years now, so it's time for these copies to help out someone new. 🤓 🎨 🖌️
