Originally written in 1952, this is a humorous, moving, and courageous personal account of what it was like to be Japanese-American growing up in Seattle in the 1930s, and then, as a U.S. citizen, to be relocated with family to an internment camp during WWII. The prose is rich and moves beautifully.
Paperback, 238 pages. I bought this new in 1998. Now very good used condition. The cover is creased with indentations (see pics) and a bit bleached on the spine (I think the original color must have been cream?). One blank page was removed because of a personal dedication. Otherwise intact. No marks, wears, tears, or discoloration to the pages themselves as far as I can tell. Spine a bit scuffed but not cracked.
