Paperback, 436 deckled pages, published 2012. Includes the Harper-Perennial P.S. section at the end with an author's note, interview with Kingsolver, and further reading recs.
Very good used condition, gently read. The spine has a couple of light creases, and the previous owner wrote a note under the cover flap (see pic, poor Mary Kay) but this copy has no highlights, no torn or missing pages, and the binding is still tight.
"Dellarobia Turnbow is restless. After a decade of domestic disharmony on a failing farm in Appalachia, she seeks momentary escape through an obsessive flirtation with a young telephone repairman, and hikes up a mountain road toward a tryst. There, she encounters a shocking sight: a silent, forested valley filled with what looks like a lake of fire--that turns out to be something altogether different. She can only understand this event as a cautionary miracle, but it sparks a raft of other explanations from scientists, religious leaders, and the media. The bewildering emergency draws rural farmers into unexpected acquaintance with journalists, opportunists, sightseers, and a biologist with his own stake in the outcome. As the community lines up to judge the woman and her miracle, Dellarobia confronts her family, her church, her town, and a larger world, in a flight toward truth that could undo everything. A breathtaking parable of catastrophe and denial that explores how life's complexities lead us to believe in our own truths..." 👀🔥✨
