The first model of the Astrograbber to debut on the field was immortalized on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1974, garnering international recognition and forever changing Nike and the game of American football. The Astrograbber was initially made in leather, with a subsequent style in lightweight mesh launching shortly afterward. The football charm included with the shoe is a historical reproduction of commemorative charms from the 1930s-1940s, originally given to members of high school and collegiate teams.
