Blue Danube is characterized as a blue floral motif on a white background. The rectangular Danube backstamp indicates it was produced from 1977-2000.
Inspiration: Derived from the German Meissen Blue Onion pattern, but made in Japan.
Blue Danube & Blue Onion are related but not identical. Blue Onion is the original pattern, originating from Meissen porcelain in Germany. Blue Danube, introduced in 1951 by Lipper International, is a Japanese-made interpretation of the Blue Onion design, specifically for the US market 1977-2000. While both feature a similar blue floral pattern, Blue Danube is a distinct pattern w its own unique characteristics. This pattern is well-loved & collected, so many pieces! It is dishwasher & microwave safe.
