Black Orpheus Original Soundtrack; Record

Starring Breno Mello and Marpessa Dawn, Black Orpheus won the Palme d'Or at the 1959 Cannes Film Festival and the following year's Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. Equally memorable was the soundtrack album, which featured the music of two of Brazil's top composers, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa. Two of the tracks, Manha de Carnaval and Samba of Orpheus attracted considerable attention at the time of release (1959) and have since become acknowledged as bossa nova classics.
