This vintage jewelry music box was brought back to America in 1954 after a serviceman's tour of duty in Korea. (He later became my brother-in-law. When he married my sister, it was my gift for being "Junior Bridesmaid" as I was only 9. I thought it was the most beautiful jewelry box ever!) The music box (Pigeon brand) plays the old favorite "Stardust" and is in excellent working condition. The maker's mark is M.M Japan in gold on the underside. Both the turn key for the music box and the maker's mark are shown in photographs. On the lid is a traditional Japanese scene of Mt..Fuji and the top of the mountain is mother of pearl inlay, as well as the roof tops on the two pagodas. The landscape on all surfaces in painted with gold and show no signs of wear or chipping. However, there is a slight chip/wear mark directly above the key opening from being used. There is no key. The interior photos show a perfect mirror with no blemishes, scratches, or discolorations. The top level of the jewelry box has two hinged covers with red silk tassels over the compartments. The cover on the left is missing the tiny pins that held it on the hinge. The right cover is intact. The lower portion of the box has a small cubicle located in the front right, and the remainder of the box is for larger items. The lining is a bit faded and there is a water stain which is clearly visible in the photo.
