Bertoldo Taubert (1915-1974) was born in Leopoli, Italy. He was the son of a well-known portrait painter, who moved his family to Paris when Bertoldo was a child. Eventually, Taubert took on French citizenship.
Taubert's works are described as modern and personal. In his youth, the artist spent a great deal of time painting in East Asia, South America and Scandinavia, inspired in turn by each of these locales.
During World War II, Taubert became an active member of the resistance helping over 300 people escape from occupied France. Captured by the Gestapo in 1944, he remained a hostage until the end of the war.
After the war, Taubert resumed his work, including the execution of a famous portrait of Winston Churchill. An internationally recognized artist, Taubert's paintings are shown at the Musee d’Art Moderne in Paris as well as in museums in Strasbourg, Milan, and Buenos Aires. His works are in numerous private collection.
