The first as a "talkie" was released by MGM in 1959. That version starred Charleston Heston and featured a 9-minute chariot race scene still considered a masterpiece of cinematic art. This book is an illustrated abridged version (to match movie story) of the original novel with a full-color frame from the 1959 movie of the chariot race scene on front and back cover. Interior illustrations are B&W line drawings by Charles Beck. iv + 116pp. Trade paperback is complete with handling creases in the covers but no reading creases in spine. Interior is tight, clean and unmarked. Pages are browning with age and some pages have creases from careless handling. Above average condition. Copyright 1956 for Simon and Schuster with Artists and Writers Guild movie edition in hardcover. This Scholastic paperback edition was published through an arrangement with Simon & Schuster, and includes additional material copyrighted with publication, in 1960. Printed in U.S.A.
