“Greetings from staging at the New Mexico Museum of Space History. I’m a vintage, but-new-in-box, Beechcraft Model 18 Die Cast Metal Collector Bank. Removed only for staging, I’m manufactured by Liberty Classics in 1997. Gently press in canopy along rear sides forward to insert coins & slide latch forward & open bottom hatch to remove.
The Twin Beech began development in 1935 as an executive transport aircraft, making its first flight on January 15, 1937. Following the outbreak of World War II most model 18 production was destined for military use by the United States & allied nations proving very adaptable to a wide range of tasks, such as transport training and utility aircraft.
When assembly ceased in 1969, over 7,500 Twin Beech aircraft had been produced. Powered by two 450 h.p. Pratt & Whitney radial engines, the Beech C18S had a maximum speed of 230 mph at 5,000 feet with a ceiling of 22,000 feet. Having a wing span of 47’8” and a length of 34’6” the C18S had a gross takeoff weight of 8,500 pounds and a range of 1,000 miles.”
